National Barbie Day

"I want to be part of the people that make meaning, not the thing that's made. I want to be the one imagining, not the idea itself" (Barbie). This toyline multimedia franchise was first manufactured in March 1959 as a doll called Barbie. It was created by Ruth Handler, who named her Barbie aka Barbara Millicent Roberts, which was Ruth's daughter's name. In April 1997, Danish dance-pop group Aqua released a song entitled "Barbie Girl." And now there's Barbie, an upcoming romantic comedy film, featuring Margot Robbie (Barbie) and Ryan Gosling (Ken). It is said to be the first live-action film adaptation of this multimedia franchise.
