My first time at the University of Waikato

"It is in the shelter of each other that people survive" (Irish proverb). 14 years ago today, I had my first glimpse of the University of Waikato. I arrived in Aotearoa New Zealand on 12 July 2008 and then traveled down to Hamilton to report for duty as a Teaching Fellow on 14 July 2008. This was the beginning of a very fruitful love affair. Since the university is located in Hamilton city, I fell in love with the city and what it can offer to me. I was living all by myself, which was very challenging back then. If you are alone, living in a foreign country, you know what I mean. Being in the university, in a way, helped me cope with the loneliness and the longing for the homeland.
